Everyone that you knew just lives on in these things just like you are now.

Relocation to San Diego, CA from Niagara Falls, NY after a quick summer in the wild.

These photos have been shot with various cameras including a Canon 5D Mark II, a Minolta SRT-101, a Mamiya RB67, a Holga, a Nikon D200 and a Canonet QL17 GIII

  1. I’m guessing this is in Kansas. If that’s the case, we had been on the road since about 11am that day after waking up in my Civic under a comforter in a truckstop parking lot. We parked at 5am expecting to sleep for only a few hours before we hit the road again to catch up on time we lost but apparently our bodies had other plans. We woke up around lunch time to families and truckers walking past our car on a freezing, overcast afternoon. My comforter kept us warm, I think it was about 5 degrees that day.  I’m guessing this is in Kansas. 2. I’ve been doing some work with a high-end glass blower in San Diego who is starting to brand his company and push his work out to the public. My first session was spent photographing ridiculously nice water pipes that looked more like Tesla experiments than smoking apparatuses while our next meeting was at the workshop to get some images of him at work.  I’ve been doing some work with a high-end glass blower in San Diego who is starting to brand his company and push his work out to the public. 3. I haven’t been posting a lot but I hope to change that. Here is an image of Dave W getting tattooed by our friend, Matt Evans, out in Fort Collins, CO. I had flown home for the holidays to visit friends and family then drive my car out to California. Dave came with me on this trying journey and has a beastly memento to remember it by.
I had seen a lot of important people during my short visit home, but seeing Dave was different since we last saw each other 2 years ago. I lived with this fucker, we drank together, he taught me how to roll cigarettes, we raged out to music together, we talked about the future and stumbled home together. We inspired each other. After graduation we went our separate ways and then here we were with nothing to do but drive for hours, talk about the in-between times and figure out my car problems. Our reunion and departure wasn’t like the others I had seen. His life had only grown more interesting since 2009, moving to Brooklyn and working in TV/Film. More importantly there were no awkward goodbyes, only excitement for the times ahead.  I haven’t been posting a lot but I hope to change that. Dance your… Ph.D. off.

In 2008, archeologist Brian Stewart began what has become something of a cult competition among young scientists: the “Dance Your Ph.D. Contest.”
This year, 55 Ph.D. theses with names like “Carbon Nanotube Growth on Challenging Substrates” or “Cosmological Simulations of Galactic Disc Assembly” were turned into experimental dance by their authors, videotaped and then judged.

Go, watch, be amazed.

YES.

We learned a lot about hair that day.  Shaun asked me to be a model for a hair demo the other day, I haven’t gotten my hair cut this often since high school. We learned a lot about hair that day.

  14. theearthanditsskin asked: So I definitely just came across your blog about 10 minutes ago, give or take, and it's probably one of my favorites. Amazing work. Quick question though: I've been wanting to get into photography so what would you recommend as a decent digital beginner's camera?

Thank you! You’re making me blush. My first camera was a Minolta SRT-101, it was my Father’s back in the 60s. This camera taught me the basic concepts I still fall back on today, proper exposure, depth of field, composition, ISO sensitivity…sooooo it was important for my first digital camera to have all these options available to me in a similar manner. I had a Nikon d40x and hated it since I had to go through the menu to adjust them, I never shot on auto. The technology was holding me back and I found myself missing great shots so I eventually got a d200 because of it’s layout. Think about what you’ll be shooting, your needs. Does any of what I said apply to you? Are you just getting into photography for fun? If so, it seems silly to invest in something you don’t really need. Ebay/craigslist is amazing, that’s where I would always buy and sell camera equipment. Oh yeah, all Nikon lenses are interchangeable, that’s pretty nice if you’ve got an Aunt of Uncle with a lot of old equipment. You go to Fredonia, sweet!
